How Do I get out of this Mess?

(Romans 5:12-20)

I. HOW DID I GET INTO THIS MESS?

Romans 5:12 ¹² Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned

DOCTRINE OF ORIGINAL SIN:

The tendency to sin innate in ________ human beings, 

inherited from Adam in consequence of the fall.

THREE KINDS OF DEATH:

1. ________________________ DEATH 

Ecclesiastes 8:8 None of us can hold back our spirit from departing. None of us has the power to prevent the day of our death. There is no escaping that obligation,

2. ________________________ DEATH 

Genesis 2:15–17 ¹⁵ The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. ¹⁶ And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; ¹⁷ but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

3. ________________________ DEATH

Genesis 3:22 ²² And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.

RESULTS OF ADAM’S GENES:

II. HOW DO I GET OUT OF THIS MESS?

THESIS STATEMENT:

By condemning the whole world through One Man → (ADAM) 

God was able to save the whole world through One Man! (JESUS)

Romans 5:14 …death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come.

Romans 5:15 ¹⁵ But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 

(v.16) THE ________________    Judgement &   Justification

                                    Condemnation

Romans 5:16 ¹⁶ Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. 

Romans 5:18 ¹⁸ Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness (by Jesus) was justification that brings life for all men.

(v.17) THE ________________    Death               Life

Romans 5:17 ¹⁷ For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:19 ¹⁹ For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

THE REMEDY TO THE ___________ PROBLEM:

Romans 5:20 ²⁰ But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 

John 1:29 (ESV) ²⁹ “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Numbers 21:7–9 ⁷ The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. ⁸ The Lord said to Moses, “Make a (bronze) snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”

John 3:16 ¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:14–15 ¹⁴ Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, ¹⁵ that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.
